Embrace the Middle

Our journey of learning can feel like one day it isn’t and the next day it is. Sometimes we are looking for it and other times we didn’t know we were until we found it. What feeds the underlying feeling of searching? Is it curiosity, necessity, chance or denial? Maybe it’s a mix of everything depending on the day and the topic.

When a person eats organic foods, they usually then start to care about the ingredients that are in all of their home and self care products. This may then lead to them making their own soaps, lotions and use of essential oils. Or perhaps you start down the path of raising your kids and being diligent in what they are learning and being taught. This may then lead to you volunteering at your child’s school, which slowly opens your eyes to the gaps that schools inevitably have because of the ratio of students to teachers. The bullying, exposure to topics that seem pushed onto young fertile minds and the overloading of kids time, opens the door to other education options, like online or homeschooling.

As we go along our journey of discovery into who we are and what makes us feel true down to the core, we may find that things take us off the well beaten path and into the wild. Even though the seemingly self made path is our own, it is constantly weaving in and out with others as well. This is why when we meet someone who is also following their own path we start with one thing in common and find that several others quickly come up too. The feeling of community, shared knowledge and experiences gives us some respite from the never-ending bushwhacking of self discovery. Finding others along the way who teach us something new or reconfirm something old is comforting. Whether it be a lifelong relationship or one that lasts only for a season, the value of sharing our discoveries is so important. Where we are today will always feel like we are in the middle of our learning journey because we don’t know when our last day will be. Whether we are young or old, embrace being in the middle. It just means we have a trail of experiences behind us and a trail of discovery ahead. Happy Bushwhacking.
